Tooth Bonding
There are two techniques in dentistry:
- The indirect technique – where a lab is used to create the crown, inlay, onlay, bridge, or whatever restoration is needed; and
- The direct technique – where the dentist bonds a restoration directly to your tooth and shapes it to the correct size.
Tooth bonding is a direct technique that corrects small gaps between teeth, chips, slight crookedness, and stains. It restores a tooth to its natural color and shape.
Tooth bonding:
- Is used to correct small imperfections
- Requires artistic skill and ability from the dentist
- Is completed with no outside help from a dental lab
The bonding color is chosen and mixed, and the tooth is shaped and completed, all in the dentist’s office. However, when many teeth are to be repaired, indirect porcelain restorations will be used.
