Neuromuscular Dentists
Treatment of this issue varies greatly in dentistry and all theories claim some level of success. This office is well versed in historical forms of dental treatment which focuses to varying extents on two main areas; how teeth come into contact which each other and muscle behavior. This office does not focus on either. The term TMJ identifies where these structures are, between the temporal and mandibular bones. The joint portion of the TMJ identifies what it is, a joint. We believe in Orthopedic and Osteopathic joint care.
In our 25 Years of using both the Osteopathic and Orthopedic principles, we have found them to be valid when also applied to the care of the TMJ. Global symptoms relief can and do usually involves other forms of musculoskeletal care. We are fortunate to be partnered with experts in that field through Dr. DiStefano's affiliation with Michigan State's College of Osteopathic Medicine. We are also partnered with several physicians who are able to approach immune issues, sleep dysfunction, surgical interventions, and neurological issues when necessary. Restoring health in long standing chronic cases involve several of these professional partnerships.
- TMJ – Temporomandibular Joint
- TMD – Temporomandibular Disorder
- CMD – Craniomandibular Disorder
These terms are commonly used to describe the global dysfunctions involving the jaw joints. TMJ, however, is simply the correct name of joints of the jaw.
