Why are composite fillings better than amalgam?

Are amalgam fillings really dangerous?

They can be. Mercury fillings contribute three to four times more mercury to our body than all other environmental sources combined.

What's the procedure for replacing my metal fillings with composite fillings?

Your old fillings will first be safely removed by one of our expert cosmetic dentists so that the mercury does not vaporize. Next, a mold will be taken of your teeth so that the composite fillings can be custom made for each tooth. Lastly, the composite fillings are attached and sealed using dental cement.

How long to do composite fillings last?

If they are taken care of using recommended daily hygiene practices, they can last for decades.

Are composite fillings covered by insurance?

If you have a new cavity that needs to be filled, dental insurance should cover a percentage of the cost. If you are having metal fillings removed for cosmetic reasons, insurance usually doesn't cover it.
